Heads up for anyone planning on heading into the Loop on Monday: another closure will take effect as part of the Chicago Transit Authority’s reconstruction project at State and Lake streets.
Southbound State Street will close between Wacker Drive and Randolph Street after the morning rush for emergency sewer repairs. The closure is set to begin at 9 a.m. and last for approximately six weeks.
Signs will be put up to offer reminders, and pedestrians will still be able to walk down the street and enter businesses.
Northbound traffic won’t be affected — only southbound.
The State and Lake construction project, a three‑year overhaul of the 130‑year‑old elevated CTA station at the site, began in January. The station will be demolished and replaced with a modern facility featuring a glass canopy, wider platforms and expanded sidewalks beneath.
