A SigAlert was issued for SR‑78 just before 3 p.m. Saturday after a head‑on traffic collision east of Julian that left two people dead and two others injured, according to CAL FIRE San Diego.
The hard closure in both directions of the SR-78, between Scissor Crossing and Banner Ranch, is expected to last approximately 5 to 6 hours, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash involving two vehicles occurred near Mastros Trailer Park Road.
CAL FIRE confirmed to NBC 7 that two people were pronounced dead at the scene. Two were airlifted to local trauma centers for treatment.
