If you notice a reduction in your April SDG&E bill, it’s not a mistake.
SDG&E residential customers can expect a $32.58 gas credit on their April bills, due to the California Climate Credit, a statewide program administered by the California Public Utilities Commission as part of California’s efforts to address climate change.
The credit will be applied automatically; no application is needed.
Eligible SDG&E residential customers will receive the following bill credits based on their billing cycle:
- A $32.58 natural gas Climate Credit will be automatically applied to customer bills in April.
- A $49.36 electric Climate Credit, which will be delivered twice later in 2026.
The California Climate Credit is funded through the state’s Cap-and-Invest Program, which requires companies to pay for climate pollution.
“The Climate Credit is one of several statewide tools designed to help customers while California reduces emissions,” said SDG&E Chief Customer Officer Dana Golan. “We recognize the pressure energy costs can place on household budgets and remain focused on helping customers access available support and assistance.”
In previous years, residential electric customers received the electric credits two times a year —generally in April and October. Natural gas customers receive the credit once a year in April.
A new CPUC Proposed Decision sets August and September as the months for the large utilities and the Proposed Decision is set for a vote of the Commissioners on April 30, 2026.
Billing cycles vary, so not everyone will see the bill credit at the same time in April, but no action is required to receive it. It will automatically be credited to all gas and electricity customers.
