San Diego County Sheriff’s shot and killed a man after an hours-long SWAT standoff in unincorporated Escondido on Wednesday after a call for a stabbing.
The call came in around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday for a stabbing at 26890 N Broadway. The San Diego Sheriff’s Department said there was “one victim and one suspect.” The relation between the two was described as neither husband nor wife. SWAT was then called to the scene.
Footage from the scene shows the SDSO trying to negotiate with a man, telling him to put his hands up and come out peacefully. Then at some point, SDSO opened fire, shooting the man, officials told NBC 7. The SDSO confirmed the man died shortly after.
It is unclear what led to the shooting or how many deputies fired their weapons.
Officials told NBC 7 they believe this incident may have started less than a mile away on Reidy Canyon Place. Footage from the scene shows a crime tape is up with a deputy stationed nearby.
The San Diego Police Department took over the investigation of the shooting. The SDPD investigates shootings involving personnel with the SDSO under the terms of a countywide agreement designed to prevent conflicts of interest.
This is a developing story. Details may change as information is released.
