4 things to know about the weather:
- Mid-winter cold Wednesday
- Another freeze coming Wednesday night
- Next rain Friday night
- Sunday looks nice & warm
Cold, high pressure over New England will keep it feeling more like mid-January than mid-March again Wednesday. Fortunately our wind will turn back to the south later Wednesday and a warming trend can begin to take hold.
Temperatures are starting out well below freezing Wednesday morning and with limited sunshine before noon, we’ll be lucky to get much above 40° for a few hours Wednesday afternoon.
Plan for another hard freeze again Wednesday night for everywhere except the urban centers.
Thursday looks nice enough. Temperatures will stay in the upper 40s in Northern Maryland and near the Bay but the rest of the area should reach the low to mid-50s.
Skies will turn cloudy again by noon on Friday and there’s an increasing chance for rain for Friday evening and overnight. Most of the area will get back above 60° Friday afternoon.

Warmer weekend with rain chances
With any luck, those raindrops will be gone before 9 a.m. on Saturday but some of our latest guidance hints at rain chances lasting until noon-ish. Breaks of sun on Saturday afternoon will help warm things up nicely. Mid- to upper 60s looks likely and 70s will be possible if we can just get the rain out of here early enough.
A cold front is expected to arrive mid- to late Sunday afternoon. Ahead of that front, we will be nice and warm. Even with cloudy skies mid-70s looks likely. Rain chances will come along with the front so if you have outdoor plans on Sunday try to get them done before 3 p.m.
Chilly, northwest winds and raindrops will drive temperatures from the mid-70s Sunday afternoon into the mid-40s by Monday morning.
Even with the sunshine returning, Monday and Tuesday’s highs will get just above 50°. If you want to feel summer heat, head to Phoenix, Arizona, where afternoon highs should be near 100° Wednesday and close to 105° on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Those will all be records as the earliest 100° day currently was on March 26, 1988.
