Several suspected pipe bombs were found in Fort Washington Park in Maryland on Sunday and Monday, forcing authorities to evacuate and close the park, officials said.
A bomb squad is on the scene working to disable more devices found Monday, officials said.
Five devices were found and “rendered safe” by the Prince George’s County Fire Department (PGFD) on Sunday, officials said. U.S. Park Police evacuated the park on Sunday.
On Monday, more explosive devices were found.
“There is no current threat to the public. If members of the public should come across a device similar to those pictured, do not touch the device. Leave the area and dial 9-1-1,” PGFD said in a statement.
The FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and U.S. Park Police are investigating alongside Maryland and Prince George’s County officials.
PGFD didn’t release any information about a potential suspect or motive. They didn’t say when the explosive devices may have been left at the park.
