A driver hit a D.C. police officer in Southwest and kept going, authorities say. The hit-and-run case is connected to a major crash on the Capital Beltway in Northern Virginia early Thursday that left traffic backed up for 12 miles, a law enforcement source tells News4.
The officer was rushed to a hospital for treatment of his injuries after being hit at Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Forrester Street SW at about 9:55 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
News4 video shows part of the area shut down.
Police were searching for a white Range Rover with a South Carolina license plate that included the numbers 403.
The officer was released from the hospital, police said in an update Thursday morning. No information was released on the nature of his injuries.
Anyone with potentially relevant information is asked to contact police.
