4 things to know about the weather:
- Some Monday raindrops
- A bit summer-like this week
- Storms Wednesday PM
- Mild, unsettled weekend
A new week begins with a few rain chances followed by a significant warming trend that will definitely shorten the lifespan of the cherry blossoms.
It’s nowhere near as cold as the last few mornings, with most areas starting out near 50° instead of near freezing. More clouds than sun Monday with the chance of a passing shower at just about any time. Highs will get close to 70° thanks to steady southwest winds. The clouds and the breeze will hang around Monday night with one or two sprinkles of rain possible.
It’ll feel much warmer, feeling like early summer, on Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be a bit more sun and a lower rain chance on Tuesday with highs around 80°.

Chance of storms this week
A cold front will arrive late Wednesday afternoon. Ahead of the front, temperatures will reach the mid-80s. A period of rain, with a few thunderstorms, is expected late Wednesday afternoon and evening.
That front will hang up over or just south of the D.C. metro area on Thursday, making for a challenging temperature forecast. If the front stops near Fredericksburg most of the area will be near 70° on Thursday afternoon.
If the front makes it to Richmond, Virginia, we could easily be 10-15° cooler. No matter how far south it gets on Thursday, the front will come back north on Friday and put us back into the warm air for Friday and the weekend.
Highs will likely be in the 75-80° range on Friday and 80-85° range on Saturday. With a bit of early season humidity around, a shower or thunderstorm can’t be ruled out. Rain looks more likely on Sunday and next week will feel more like April and less like June.
