4 things to know about the weather:
- Much cooler Thursday
- 80s back Friday, Saturday
- Rain on Easter
- Much cooler next week
There are still some lingering areas of rain around Thursday morning, and there’s a small chance for a quick shower again Thursday afternoon, but most of the day ahead will be dry.
A cold front is moving southward across the DMV Thursday morning and will lead to a large disparity in temperatures Thursday. Areas to the north and northeast of the Beltway (Frederick & Howard counties) will see temperatures fall into the 50s Thursday morning and stay there for the remainder of the day.
In and around D.C. metro area, we will start near the mid-60s Thursday morning and gradually trend back into the mid-50s by later Thursday afternoon. South and west of the D.C. metro area (Luray and Culpeper in Virignia) will climb from near 60° Thursday morning to the mid-70s Thursday afternoon.
The front will hang right overtop of us Thursday night keeping the skies mostly cloudy and allowing temperatures area-wide to fall into the upper 40s and low 50s.

Expect highs to hit 80° to end the week
The front will lift north of our area Friday morning so Friday afternoon and Saturday will feel just like Monday and Tuesday did with highs easily reaching into the mid-80s. Most of Friday’s records highs are safe but several records are likely to be tied or broken on Saturday.
A second cold front, with a lot more sticking power, will arrive on Easter Sunday. Plan for rain. There’s still a chance that the rain will hold off just long enough for sunrise services to be dry but that’s not guaranteed and rain is near certain before 10 to 11a.m.
Southwest winds will hold temperatures close to 70° for most of the day but northwest winds will arrive by late afternoon and much colder air will take hold. Even with abundant sunshine, highs on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will stay in the 50s and overnight lows will drop into the 30s and low 40s.
