4 things to know about the weather:
- Chilly breeze Monday
- Even colder Tuesday
- Frost/freeze threat Tuesday night
- Warm by the weekend
Sunday’s rain averaged 1/2 to 3/4 inches for the DMV and it’s a good thing we got it because there’s not another chance for rain coming for at least another week.
High pressure over Minnesota will push another cold front through the area Monday night bringing a frost/freeze concern by Tuesday night.
Highs Monday afternoon will fall about 5-8° below average with most of the region topping out close to 60°. That’s going to feel a bit chilly after being in the 80s for three out of the last five days. Steady northwest winds will remain up near 15 mph which will counteract the sunshine.
Clouds will increase Monday evening as the cold front approaches but the air at the surface is too dry to support any chances for rain.

At or below freezing Tuesday and Wednesday night
Tuesday and Wednesday will be quite chilly. Highs in and around the D.C. metro area will only reach the low 50s which is more than 10° below average. Thanks to all the mild weather over the last four to five weeks, the growing season is off to an early start.
This will become a real concern for farmers and gardeners Tuesday and Wednesday night as temperatures will plummet. Clear skies and dying winds will let temperatures fall into the upper 20s and low 30s both nights with Tuesday night likely being the colder of the two.
Make efforts to protect any cold sensitive plants or risk losing them to the frost. Winds will finally turn back to the south for the second half of the week.
Highs will be near 60° on Thursday, 70° on Friday and 75° on Saturday and Sunday. There are signs that we might be back near record high territory by this time next week.
