Every week, on her hit show ‘Abbott Elementry,’ Quinta Brunson — as teacher Janine Teagues — does her best to help nurture and educate fictional students in Philadelphia’s public school system.
And now, with the announcement of a new Quinta Brunson Field Trip Fund, the actress and comedian is helping expand the horizons of thousands of actual students in the city’s public schools.
Announced Tuesday, the actress and comedian has teamed with the School District of Philadelphia to create the fund that hopes to, as detailed by organizers, “eliminate the costs associated with out-of-classroom opportunities for over 117,000 students in Philadelphia’s traditional public schools.”
“Field trips were some of the most memorable parts of my own education growing up in Philadelphia,” said Brunson, in a statement on the new fund. “They opened my world, sparked my creativity, and helped me imagine a future beyond what I saw every day. Going somewhere new shows you that the world is bigger and more exciting than you believe, and it can shape what you come to see as achievable. I’m proud to support Philadelphia students with experiences that remind them their dreams are valid and their futures are bright.”
Organizers said, this new fund will help afford “adventures” for students in Philly’s public school district, helping the district afford to take them to nearly 200 museums and national landmarks, along with over 100 parks, discovery centers and venues across the city, at no cost.
The new fund was announced on GivingTuesday, and for those who would like to help support the fund, the district is accepting donations, here.
