A 26-year-old man was arrested without a shoe on Wednesday, after police claim, he left his sneaker behind following a home invasion at a property in Newark, Delaware.
According to police, 26-year-old Da’Aron Griffin of Middletown, was arrested with only one shoe on after he fled a residence along Winding Road in in the Norwegian Woods neighborhood of Newark, Delaware on Wednesday afternoon.
Officers were called to a property there at about 3 p.m., police said, on a report of a robbery.
Responding officers spotted two people fleeing the residence — one of which was Griffin — and quickly detained both, police said.
Further investigation revealed that Griffin had gone to that residence to confront a 30-year-old man who lived there, police said. During a physical confrontation outside the home, officials said the victim entered the home, at which point Griffin is alleged to have damaged the windshield of a vehicle in the driveway of the home.
Then, police said, Griffin then damaged a window and entry door at the residence and gained entry to the home while armed with a pair of knives.
Inside, Griffin attempted to force his way into a bedroom, causing a laceration to the head of a 65-year-old man who was attempting to prevent Griffin from entering, officials said.
This proved to be a minor injury, according to police.
The 30-year-old victim then fled the residence, followed by Griffin, which is when, officials said, police arrived and found and detained the two men outside the home.
Investigators at the scene determined one of the men they had detained was a victim in this case and, as they searched the home, police said, officers recovered a shoe that Griffin had, allegedly, left behind inside the home.
Also, officials said, outside the home, investigators found Griffin’s vehicle parked nearby.
Griffin has been arrested and charged with burglary, assault, resisting arrest and related offenses.
He is being held in police custody on $145,000 bail, officials said.
