From Philly to Italy: Local athletes going for gold at the Winter Olympics

The 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics are set to start this week and Philadelphia will be represented well at the upcoming games.

From speed and figure skating, to curling, luge, skeleton, bobsled and hockey, the Philadelphia region will see athletes from throughout the community competing to represent America — and in the case of some Flyers players, countries across the world — in the Olympic games.

Throughout the upcoming events, NBC10 will highlight local players, tell their stories and follow all their performances in the games.

For now, here’s who to watch for and when you’ll be able to see them compete in the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

Local Athletes taking part in the Winter Olympics

Isabeau Levito

Isabeau Levito, 18, is a figure skater who was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Burlington County, New Jersey. She considers Igloo Ice Rink in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, her home rink.

She’s making her Olympic debut at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics and has been skating since she was just three-years-old.

Levito is looking forward to competing in Woman’s Singles Ice Skating after suffering a foot injury in the 2024-2025 season that kept her sidelined.

She’ll be competing at the Milano Ice Skating Arena with her first performance set for Feb. 6, 2026.

Andrew Heo

Andrew Heo, 24, may live in Utah now, but he was born and raised in Warrington, Bucks County. He’s set to compete in speed skating in his second Olympic appearance at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

But, this will be the first time his family can attend his performances in the Olympics as they were unable to attend his events at the 2022 games in Beijing, due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Heo’s father, Peter, operates an auto repair business in Philadelphia.

Andrew will be competing in the 1500m, 500m, and 2000m mixed relay as a speed skater.

Taylor Anderson-Heide

Taylor Anderson-Heide, 30, of Minnesota, will be competing in Women’s Curling at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, and grew up in Broomall, Pennsylvania, playing at the Philadelphia Curling Club in Paoli.

One of five girls in her family, Anderson-Heide has been competing in curling since the age of four, learning the sport with her sisters at the curling club.

Anderson-Heide said she’s excited to compete for gold at her first Olympic events with all of her sisters and parents with her in Milan Cortina.

Anderson-Heide will represent Team USA at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics in Women’s Curling events at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium.

Matthew Greiner

Competing in his first Olympics, Matthew Greiner, 22, was born in Abington and lived in Ambler before moving to Utah with his family when he was six-years-old.

Though his mom is originally from South Philly and his grandmother, on his mother’s side, still lives here.

His parents told NBC10 that he grew up going to the Philadelphia Zoo and rooting for Philadelphia’s sports teams. In fact, they said, much of Greiner’s personality was formed by his adolescence in the region.

He’s been competing in luge since first trying the sport in 2014 and, his parents said, he’s never looked back.

Greiner will be competing in the Men’s Luge events at the Cortina Sliding Centre.

Summer Britcher

At 31-years-old, Summer Britcher will be competing in her fourth Olympic Games at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

Britcher grew up in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, where she told NBC10, she found the sport “by accident” when on a skiing trip with her family at the age of 11.

She tried her hand at a promotional luge event and fell in love with the sport.

She competed at the 2022 Beijing Games with a broken finger and hopes to win a medal at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

Britcher will compete in the Women’s Singles Luge events at the Cortina Sliding Centre.

Kelly Curtis

In her second Olympic appearance, Kelly Curtis, 37, originally from Princeton, New Jersey, is looking forward to her first Olympics as a mom.

Her daughter, Maeve, was born in November of 2023 and, she told NBC10, she’s excited for her daughter to see her compete in Skeleton events with fellow athletes from all over the world.

Curtis is a member of the U.S. Air Force and was the first Black athlete to represent Team USA in Skeleton events at the 2022 Olympic Games.

She now lives in Italy where she is assigned to Aviano Air Base.

Curtis will compete in Women’s Skeleton events at the Cortina Sliding Centre.

Elana Meyers Taylor

Five-time medalist — three silver, two bronze — Elana Meyers Taylor, 41, will be competing in her fifth Olympic Games in the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

Meyers Taylor grew up in Douglasville, Georgia, but her parents are from Pemberton, New Jersey, and she still has family there.

She told NBC10 that she’s hoping to win her first gold medal at this year’s Olympic Games, but, besides that, Meyers Taylor wants to do it for her sons, Nico and Noah, who are both deaf.

Talking to NBC10’s Siobhan McGirl, Meyers Taylor said she wants to show her children that, despite what people may say, you can continue to fight through hard times.

Mayers Taylor will be competing in Women’s Bobsledding events at the Cortina Sliding Centre.

Philadelphia Flyers in the Olympic Games

Three Flyers players — Rasmus Ristolainen, Dan Vladar and Travis Sanheim — will be competing in hockey events for separate countries during the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, while Flyers head coach, Rick Tocchet, will be an assistant coach for Team Canada during the events.
