A fire in West Philadelphia forced a daycare to evacuate as firefighters worked to put out the blaze on Monday afternoon, according to a spokesperson with the Philadelphia Fire Department.
Firefighters were called to a building on the 7400 block of Brookhaven Road in the Overbrook Park neighborhood of West Philadelphia around 4 p.m. on Feb. 2, officials said.
When crews got to the scene, they found thick smoke coming from the second and third floors of a multi-use building, according to the fire department.
Firefighters started to attack the fire from outside of the building because it was difficult to find the “seat,” officials explained.
At least 15 children and staff at the daycare were evacuated and moved to a nearby library, officials said.
SkyForce10 was over the scene where thick white smoke could be seen coming from the building. Firefighters were visible outside and on the roof of a nearby building.
The fire was placed under control around 5:14 p.m.
No one was hurt in this incident.
The Philadelphia Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
