An arrest was made after a woman waiting for a SEPTA bus was knocked to the ground during a robbery in Oxford Circle in January, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.
A 66-year-old woman was waiting for a Route 59 SEPTA bus at the intersection of Benner Street and Castor Avenue around 6:39 p.m. on Jan. 18 when two people got out of a red Jeep SUV and approached her, police said.
This is when one them, a woman identified as 35-year-old Janesha Pickett, tried to grab the victim’s bookbag but the victim fought back leading to a struggle, officials explained.
During the struggle over the bag, the victim was knocked to the ground and dragged before being tased by Pickett, police said.
Pickett was able to get the bag away from the victim before fleeing with the other suspect in the Jeep, according to police.
That’s when the SEPTA bus arrived and the driver helped the woman get back to her feet, police said.
The stolen bag had personal identification information along with $500 in cash, police reported.
Pickett was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, robbery and other related offences.
