Two men have been arrested, officials said, after they, allegedly, told three people they were police officers during a robbery attempt that happened in the Elmwood Park section of Southwest Philly early Tuesday.
According to officials, the incident happened when two men — aged 62 and 57 — were stopped by police as they left a property along the 6300 block of Theodore Street in Southwest Philadelphia at about 3:09 a.m. on Tuesday.
Officials said that, prior to the officers’ arrival, the men — who officials did not immediately provide further identifying information on — allegedly, forced their way into a building on that block, through the front door, and announced their presence by shouting “police” several times as they entered the property.
Once inside, officials said, the men instructed everyone in the property to come downstairs — though they never showed victims any police insignias.
However, nothing was taken from the three victims — a 29-year-old man and two women aged 22 and 25 — and no injuries were reported in this incident, officials said.
Also, officials said the two men who, allegedly, pretended to be police were apprehended and it was determined that they were not actually law enforcement officials.
Police also seized a Chevrolet truck at the scene, officials said.
An investigation into this incident is still ongoing.
