A boil water advisory remains in effect for parts of Langhorne, Pennsylvania, following a water main break over the weekend.
The water main break occurred on Saturday, Feb. 28, at the intersection of East Winchester Avenue and North Pine Street in Langhorne. During the break, there was a loss of positive water pressure which indicated conditions that could allow contamination to enter the borough’s distribution system, officials said.
A boil water advisory was then issued for the following areas in Langhorne due to an increased risk of microbial contamination:
- North Pine Street between East Watson Avenue and Old Mill Drive
- East Winchester Avenue between Balley View and Bellevue Avenue
- East Watson Avenue between Bellevue Avenue and North Pine Street
- East Marshall Avenue
- Penns Avenue
- Elbow Alley
- Cherry Street
- Summit Avenue
- Penncrest Drive
- Greenridge Drive
- Valley View Road
- Brendwood Drive
- Long Avenue
*note* The advisory is only in effect for Langhorne residents living in the listed areas. Customers in Langhorne outside of those areas may see discolored water but are not under a boil water advisory, officials said.
If you live in the areas under a boil water advisory, don’t drink the water in your home without boiling it first. Bring the water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using. Or you can use bottled water.
You should also use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing your teeth and preparing your food until further notice.
Officials warn that untreated water may contain disease-causing organisms, including bacteria, viruses and parasites that can cause nausea, cramps, diarrhea and headaches.
Customers living in those areas should not drink their water without boiling it first.
The Bucks County Water & Sewer Authority (BCWSA) continues to work to repair the water main. Once the repairs are finished, officials will conduct bacteria tests to confirm that no bacteria are in the water. Officials said bacteria testing may take 48 to 72 hours.
