An hours-long barricade situation in Wilmington, Delaware ended overnight when, officials said, police shot and killed a man.
According to police, a barricade situation began after about 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon when officers descended on a property along the unit block of Ramsey Road in Wilmington, Del. following a report of shots being fired at that location.
While police were at the scene, officials said, officers continued to hear gunshots being fired inside the residence involved in this incident.
Throughout Tuesday afternoon, police alerted residents to avoid the area and they closed off roads as officers investigated the situation.
Eventually, early Wednesday, officials said in a statement that a man exited the property and “encountered officers who discharged their firearms,” striking and killing him.
Police did not immediately provide further information on this incident, nor did they share additional details on the man who was shot and killed.
But, in a statement, officials said an investigation into this incident was still underway and more information would be provided “as it becomes available.”
