A man was killed while two people were injured after an SUV crashed into a trolley in West Philadelphia overnight, police said.
The crash occurred on Friday, March 6, shortly before 1:30 a.m. Police said a 32-year-old man was driving a GMC SUV westbound along the 5100 block of Lancaster Avenue when he swerved into the eastbound lane and struck the front of a SEPTA trolley that was traveling at the time.
The crash caused the SUV to spin and the driver was ejected from the vehicle, investigators said. Police arrived shortly after and found the man on the sidewalk suffering from a head injury. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet revealed his identity.
Police said an operator and four passengers were on board the trolley at the time of the crash. The operator was not hurt while two of the passengers complained of head, neck and back pain and were taken to the hospital.
Lancaster Avenue is currently closed in both directions at the scene of the crash.
