If you had to fill up your gas tank recently and were shocked by the price of gas, you’re not alone.
Nationwide gas prices jumped an average of 27 cents compared to last week and Pennsylvania is one of the states feeling it the most.
New Jersey and Delaware are also seeing increases.
On Friday, March 6, drivers in Pennsylvania paid an average of $3.45 which is 34 cents higher than a week ago.
Delaware drivers saw the same jump with the average now $3.25.
For New Jersey drivers, they’re paying 29 cents more facing an average of $3.20.
The jump in prices is hitting people who rely on driving to pay their bills the most.
“I’m an Uber driver for me. It’s too bad,” Hussein Zohirodin said. “Last week I made money because gas was low but right now it’s too high. It’s crazy.”
According to AAA, one reason for the jump is the conflict in the Middle East which has sent prices higher to the mid-$70 per barrel range.
They say that the last time the national average made a similar weekly jump was back in March of 2022 during the start of the Russian/Ukraine conflict.
For some drivers in Philadelphia, they told NBC10 that they are limiting the time they spend behind the wheel.
“I’ve been in the house the entire day actually. I’m just out here to get some gas and then go back in the house,” Rudolph Romulus said.
