Neighbors in Northwest Philadelphia say that speed bumps that were meant to be a safety measure are now turning into dangerous obstacles.
Snowplows ripped up the speed bumps earlier this year which left behind chunks of asphalt, bolts sticking out of the ground and uneven pavement.
“It’s terrible. You have to either dodge them at the last second and hope you don’t run into somebody else or just stop and wait,” Manayunk resident Joe Christianson said.
The neighbors in Manayunk, Roxborough and Andorra said that they’ve been dealing with the broken speed cushions since January.
“I think the plows pulled them up and they haven’t been replaced,” Manayunk resident Marc Jaffee explained.
Drivers like Rebecca Sappir say that they hope the city can put the brakes on this problem before it’s too late.
“You can see the bolts coming up from the ground so you don’t want your tire to go over it and risk any issues with that,” Sappir said. “Now that people are dodging them even more it just causes more issues and it’s risky.”
Neighbors told NBC10 that they have reached out to 311 and reported the issue, but they have not yet received any answers from the city of Philadelphia.
NBC10 also reached out to the city and we have not heard back.
