The owners of Platform Z, a restaurant in Manayunk, told NBC10 that her business keeps getting vandalized and she doesn’t know why.
On Monday night, the restaurant covered a broken window with a tarp. The restaurant’s owner, Anna Yu, said the window was smashed just after midnight on Sunday morning.
Surveillance video shared with NBC10 also showed the incident where at least one person can be seen smashing the side window, causing a gaping hole in the business.
“To you, it might be something cool while I was drinking front of my friends, but to me, as a hard working business owner, this is devastating,” said Anna Yu, the owner of Platform Z.
She told us the incident is the fourth time in less than two years of being open that the restaurant has been vandalized.
“It’s extremely emotional and financially draining,” Yu said. “You come to work and try to serve the community, and then I woke up to a bunch of texts from the adjacent business saying, ‘Your window just got smashed again.'”
In another one of the vandalism incidents, Yu said the restaurant had its wiring to the air conditioner cut, which cost her thousands of dollars.
“I have not decided if I want to replace the window yet because it cost about $3,500 to have it replaced, and this is the second time that has happened in the past six months,” she said.
Yu said she’s talked with other business owners in the area and is trying to figure out why her business keeps getting targeted.
“Everyone is like this is unbelievable. It keeps happening to you? I’m like I don’t know, maybe I’m at a busy corner. Maybe it’s darker down there,” she said. “I think it’s an easy place for people to smash the window. I don’t know.”
Yu also said she would like to see more police patrol the area, especially during the weekend nights.
We reached out to police, but they didn’t have any information about this case at the time.
