Closed since March of last year as part of PennDOT’s $329 million CAP project — which will see the highway covered through Philly’s Old City section to provide additional green space and amenities — the Market Street ramp to I-95 South is set to reopen on Tuesday.
According to PennDOT officials, at 3 p.m., the ramp will be reopened to traffic after in underwent a number of upgrades, including the installation of a new Philadelphia Water Department stormwater drain, demolition of a support pier from the former covering over I-95, beam setting over the southbound lanes, and pavement reconstruction.
The work, officials said, was done as part of the CAP project that will replace and expand the covered area over the interstate between Chestnut and Walnut streets in Center City Philadelphia.
Following Tuesday’s reopening, however, PennDOT officials said, in a statement that the ramp would undergo an additional short-term closure later this year to allow crews to “perform minor construction activities including line painting.”
PennDOT officials said that there’s more information about this project, including construction updates, project detours and other information, available at www.95revive.com and parkatpennslanding.com.
