Police identified a woman who was found dead in an apartment complex in Telford, Pennsylvania, over the weekend and her death is being investigated as a homicide.
On Sunday, March 15, shortly after midnight, Telford Borough Police responded to a 911 call reporting an unresponsive person inside an apartment located above a restaurant on the 100 block of Main Street on the Bucks County side of the borough.
“It was about 1 a.m. and I look outside and there’s a whole bunch of cops over by the little Mexican restaurant that’s down there. Mind you, we never have anything going on in our town. Ever,” Rebecca Kaelan, a resident, told NBC10. “Six a.m., more cops are showing up and then they start taping it off and we can’t figure out anything that’s going on. They don’t tell anybody anything.”
When police arrived, they found the body of a woman, later identified as 23-year-old Maria Popol of Telford. Following an autopsy, the Bucks County Coroner’s Office ruled her manner of death as a homicide.
Police don’t believe there’s a threat to the community. However, Kaelan told NBC10 she wants to know more.
“We’d like to know more information about what’s going on and what the whole situation was,” she said. “Because just saying a suspicious death doesn’t tell us anything. It doesn’t make us feel any safer.”
Police have not released information on any suspects.
If you have any information on Popol’s death, call Bucks County Detectives at 215-348-6354 or Telford Borough Detectives at 215-723-6700.
