Live: Phillies sign left hander Christopher Sánchez to new 6-year contract

Just after announcing that Christopher Sanchez will be the starting pitcher for the Phillies home opener later this week, the Fightins’ have announced that have signed the 29-year-old pitcher to a new contract.

On Sunday, the Philadelphia Phillies announced that the team and the left-handed pitcher have agreed to a new six-year contract that will start next year and run through 2032.

The Phillies are expected to host a press conference with Cristopher Sánchez and Dave Dombrowski after the left-handed pitcher has signed to s six-year deal. The press event is expected to start at 10:15 a.m. and it will be livestreamed at the top of this article.

In a statement shared by the Phillies, officials noted that the 29-year-old Sánchez, 29, made 32 starts for the Phillies in 2025 and posted a 2.50 ERA (56 ER, 202.0 IP) while holding the 807 batters he faced to a .227/.275/.321 slash line (.595 OPS).

He set career bests in nearly every category, the Phillies said.

Also, the Phillies noted that, last season, Sánchez led all pitchers in baseball in bWAR at 8.0 which ranked second among all players in baseball, trailing only Aaron Judge (9.7 bWAR).

Among all National League pitchers in 2025, Sánchez ranked tied for first in quality starts (22) and home runs per 9.0 innings pitched (0.53), second in fWAR (6.4), innings pitched, ground ball rate (58.3%), FIP (2.55) and Win Probability Added (4.63), third in ERA and walks per 9.0 innings pitched (1.96), fourth in WHIP (1.06) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.82) and fifth in strikeouts, according to the Phillies.

He finished second in NL Cy Young Award voting in 2025 with 120 points and received all 30 second-place votes, trailing only Paul Skenes who finished with 210 points.

Named All-MLB Second Team in 2025, Sánchez was a 2024 NL All Star.

Other statistics about Sánchez that were shared by the Phillies:

• Sánchez threw his changeup 37.4 percent of the time last year and limited hitters to a .170 batting average and .243 slugging percentage against the pitch.
• His 45.1 percent whiff rate on the changeup ranked second in baseball among any pitch by any starting pitcher, behind only Tarik Skubal’s changeup (46.8%).
• He made 15 starts in 2025 at Citizens Bank Park and posted a 1.94 ERA (21 ER, 97.2 IP) while limiting opponents to a .200/.247/.290 slash line (.537 OPS). He allowed two earned runs or fewer in 14 of his 15 starts at home as the Phillies went 13-2 in those games.
• Since 2024, Sánchez has made 32 starts at CBP and is 13-3 with a 2.08 ERA (48 ER, 207.2 IP) with 212 strikeouts against only 34 walks (6.29 SO/BB ratio). The Phillies are 26-6 in those games (.813 win %).
• Since 2023, his first season used exclusively as a starting pitcher, Sánchez ranks tied for third in bWAR among all pitchers in baseball (with Skenes), and trails only Zack Wheeler (15.3) and Skubal (14.8). • His 3.00 ERA since 2023 ranks fifth-best among all pitchers in baseball, trailing only Skubal (2.39), Chris Sale (2.93), Max Fried (2.96) and Wheeler (2.97).
