Celebrations for America’s 250th birthday are right around the corner and, on Wednesday, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker is expected to unveil a new effort that, organizers said, looks to bring community celebrations for the the country’s semiquincentennial to every neighborhood of the city.
Called the “Block Party Bonanza,” the new initiative will bring, what officials called “Life, Liberty, and Happiness celebration kits” to help neighbors present block parties in their communities for America’s birthday celebrations.
The kits will be filled with “decorations, games, activities, and supplies to spark celebration and civic pride,” officials said.
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker is expected to announce a new “Block Party Bonanza” in celebration of America’s 250th Birthday on Wednesday. The event will be held in Center City Philadelphia and it is expected to begin at 10 a.m. The event will be livestreamed at the top of this article.
In a statement, officials said the effort expects to support 250 block parties across the city.
Also, officials said, the program will feature, what city officials are calling, “Super Block Parties” for contestants in the yearly Clean Block Contest, presented by the Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee along with special activations at five Extended Day / Extended Year schools across Philadelphia.
“The initiative expands Philadelphia’s beloved summer block party tradition while encouraging residents to celebrate the nation’s semiquincentennial together in their own communities,” officials said in a statement, on the effort.
Also, during the morning event, the mayor is expected to provide details for those who would like to register a block party in celebration of the country’s 250th birthday as registration will open on Wednesday, as well.
