A man is lucky to be alive after someone with a semi-automatic rifle opened fire on his car in North Philadelphia on Tuesday evening, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
According to Small, 27 spent shell casings were found at the crime scene at the intersection of Mutter Street and West Cambria Street. Twenty-six of the shell casing belonged to a semi-automatic rifle, and the other a handgun.
“Clearly, 26 are long rifle rounds from a semi-automatic rifle,” Small said.
The victim, who is 45 years old, was shot “at least six times” while in his car, which he then drove to the hospital to treat his injuries, Small said.
“Although he was shot multiple times, at least six or more times, he was able to drive himself,” said Small, who also said that the man was in stable condition.
The man’s car was being held by police at the hospital and was found to have several bullet holes on the passenger side, Small said.
No suspects or motives have been determined, but Small said there is surveillance video of the incident that police are looking at.
Anyone with any information on the incident is urged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or anonymously online here.
