Two people were killed after they hit by a freight train while sitting on the tracks on Tuesday evening, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.
The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7 near Glenwood Avenue and Pacific Street in the Kensington section of the city, Philadelphia police Chief Inspect Scott Small said.
Small explained that the Conrail train was going in a northeastern direction at 50 miles per hour while two people were apparently sitting on the tracks.
When officers got the scene, they found the bodies of two people underneath a stopped Conrail freight train, Small told NBC10.
“This appears to be a tragic accident,” Small said.
Medics who pronounced the two people dead, police said. One of the victims appears to be a male while the gender of the other person remains unknown.
Officials with Amtrak and Conrail are on scene assisting the Philadelphia Police Department with the investigation.
