Over 300 pigeons were rescued from extreme hoarding conditions at a home in Pennsylvania this week.
Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center in Lackawanna County shared on social media that they had received a call from Wilkes-Barre Animal Control requesting help regarding a hoarding situation.
The wildlife center said 318 pigeons were found inside a home, and between 170 and 200 were infested with mites and bird lice, suffering injuries, emaciated and in need of help.

Following the rescue, the pigeons received veterinarian evaluation, medication, and treatment. The wildlife center said that 12 birds had to be euthanized.
The wildlife center has now set up large aviaries for the birds and are accepting inquiries for those interested in adoption.

“Members of our staff, rescue personnel and medical personnel were at our center until almost midnight last night making sure all of the birds were properly assessed and accounted for. They will also be receiving additional veterinary oversight this week to provide official clearance for adoption,” the wildlife center wrote.
