Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents assigned to help secure Philadelphia International Airport during the government shutdown are expected to leave as early as Thursday.
The announcement came during a Philadelphia City Council budget hearing Wednesday.
The ICE agents were there to assist TSA agents, while they worked through the shutdown without pay.
Philadelphia was one of a few cities chosen to have ICE agents help passengers through security lines and backups.
“The officers that were sent to Philadelphia, from what I understand, were really well trained officers. Our view of them in the terminals — they were being very supportive of queue management, handling some of the exit lanes and advising passengers,” Tracy Borda, interim CEO at PHL said. “We really had no issues.”
