A popular historic landmark and garden in Southwest Philadelphia was hit by vandals last month who caused extensive damage and plunged the area into darkness.
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, an unknown suspect stripped copper from lamp fixtures at Bartram’s Garden on the 5400 block of Lindbergh Boulevard between March 9 at 6 p.m. and March 10 at 10 a.m.
Police said that the estimated damage will cost the gardens between $30,000 and $40,000.
In response to the vandalism and theft, officials with Bartram’s Garden took to social media to warn neighbors and visitors to be extra cautious if in the park at night.
The Philadelphia Police Department’s Southwest Detectives are investigating.
