Phillies rookie right-hander Andrew Painter was scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday afternoon due to a migraine, the team announced 35 minutes before first pitch.
In Painter’s absence, the Phillies planned to go with a bullpen game in the series finale against Arizona. Right-hander Zach Pop got the starting assignment.
According to the team, it’s possible Painter could pitch later in the game, depending on how he feels. He did walk to the bullpen shortly before first pitch.
Painter was set to make his third big-league start. He pitched a combined 9 1/3 innings and allowed five runs in his first two starts. The Phillies won both games.
