Five teenagers, aged 14 through 17 were arrested after allegedly kicking and throwing a table at police inside the Dorchester restaurant, Boston police said.
Five teenagers were arrested Monday for allegedly kicking, shoving, and throwing tables at police after they were asked to leave a Panera Bread in Dorchester, police said.
Two 15-year-old girls and one 17-year-old girl face charges of trespassing, assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest in connection with the fight, Boston police said in a press release.
Police also arrested a 14-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl who were charged with trespassing, BPD said.
On Monday afternoon, officers responded to the Panera Bread in the South Bay shopping center to remove a group of teenagers from the restaurant. The teenagers were previously “removed” from the Panera earlier in the day, police said.
Since Jan. 1, police have been called to the same Panera Bread more than 15 times regarding the removal of teenagers, the department said.
“Multiple attempts to resolve the issue have been made by district officers as well as the Boston Police School Unit to no avail,” police said.
When authorities arrived, the manager at Panera directed them to a group of teenagers causing an upset, BPD said.
The teens were previously asked by Panera staff to leave the restaurant, which they refused to do, BPD said.
Police walked over to the teenagers and said restaurant staff wanted them to leave the building immediately. The teenagers complied and left the restaurant, police said.
Police told the group they were not allowed to reenter Panera or they would be trespassing, BPD said.
As officers began to drive away, they saw the freshly escorted-out group walk back into the Panera, city police said.
Officers returned to the restaurant and informed the teenagers they were going to be detained, BPD said.
One of the girls in the group stood up and allegedly shoved an officer, Boston police said.
As officers began putting the girl in handcuffs, she allegedly began thrashing, screaming, and actively resisting arrest, BPD said.
This “led to chaos erupting among the rest of the group resulting in flipped tables, screaming, and fighting with officers,” police said. “The suspects refused to comply with officers’ commands to place their hands behind their back, with one suspect shoving and kicking officers, while another threw a table at officers.”
The names of the teens are being withheld due to their age.
All of the teenagers are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court, BPD said.
