50 percent of departing Boston Logan Airport flights canceled Tuesday

50 percent of flights have been canceled out of Logan Tuesday, but Amtrak is hopeful that service will return for Tuesday’s morning commute.

Hundreds of flights out of Boston were delayed or canceled and Amtrak trains were not running on Monday as a powerful nor’easter struck New England.

Travelers should expect more delays and cancellations on Tuesday.

As of Monday evening, more than 50 percent of Tuesday flights have been canceled out of Logan International Airport, while Amtrak is hoping trains will return to service for Tuesday’s morning commute.

Much of the region hunkered down Monday as the blizzard brought high winds, snowfall, and power outages. But travelers heading in and out of Boston were affected by cancellations at Logan International Airport as well as Amtrak’s New York to Boston line.

Nearly 1,000 flights were canceled Monday morning, and Amtrak service between Boston’s South Station and New York Moynihan Train Hall was suspended.

As of Monday evening, nearly 270 flights, more than 50 percent, coming out of Logan Tuesday are canceled, according to flight tracking website FlightAware. Fourteen flights are also delayed.

“Flights are expected to resume tomorrow but will depend on conditions and their ability to return their aircraft to Logan,” a MassPort spokesperson said. “Passengers are encouraged to check in with their airlines prior to coming.”

Amtrak hasn’t made a determination about Tuesday’s service as of Monday evening.

“Crews are making every effort to restore service for the morning commute on February 24th but do expect some cancellations,” the train service said Monday afternoon. “Amtrak is making additional service adjustments to other routes due to dangerous weather conditions.”
