The father of a golfer killed in a lightning strike over the summer is suing the New Jersey golf course where he died.
Scott Mariani and his 28-year-old son Simon were playing in a tournament in July at Ballyowen Golf Club in Sussex County when Simon was struck by lightning. He later died in the hospital.
In the lawsuit, Mariani accused the course of failing to take the safety of golfers into consideration during the tournament. It claims the course and its supervisors failed to implement emergency protocols even though the weather conditions on the day indicated the possibility of lightning.
The course did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
