A week into Olympic competition, and we’re starting to get an idea of what countries may end up atop the leaderboard for total medals.
Team USA held steady in third place among the countries at the Milan Cortina Olympic Games, still behind leaders Norway and Italy.
See where the medal count stands as of Day 7 of competition of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics (last updated 2/13 at 2 p.m. EST):
After a quiet day medal-wise — getting shut out in men’s snowboard halfpipe, men’s skeleton and women’s snowboard cross, among others — the best shot for the U.S. to make the podium remains in men’s figure skating.
Ilia Malinin, the “Quad God,” was in first place after the short program on Tuesday. The big question: Would he do his famous quad axel in his free skate program? He had not yet attempted his signature move in Milan, and with a five-point lead going into the free skate, it wasn’t clear if he would need to do it in order to get the gold.
What country has won the most medals so far?
As of Day 7, Italy and Norway were tied once again atop the medal count leaderboard. Both countries had already taken home 18 medals, though Norway had the edge in golds, eight to Italy’s six.
The U.S. was sitting third in the overall medal count, with 14 in all. Four of those medals were golds.
Rounding out the top five were Austria with 12 and Japan with 10.
Who has won medals for Team USA?
The U.S. won their first two medals of the Winter Olympics on Sunday, both of which were golds: In the women’s downhill for alpine skiing, and in the team event for figure skating.
Feb. 10 and 11 have proven to be the best for Team USA so far, earning five medals both of those days. Two more were added Thursday (bronze from Jessie Diggins, silver from Chloe Kim), giving them 14 overall.
