Do not be surprised if you see your next dinner flying through the sky. A new pilot program will allow customers ordering from Wonder in Green Brook, NJ, to opt for drone deliveries through the Grubhub app.
The test program begins today and will run for three months. It is only available for orders within a 2.5-mile radius of the food hall location in Green Brook.
According to Stephany Brown, Wonder’s Head of Government Affairs and Community Impact, this is the “next step” in innovation for customers. But it also marks a first for the Garden State.
“We’re the first in the Northeast to do it,” Brown said.
So far, deliveries have been completed in “as little as four minutes.”
Wonder expects to do “4 drone deliveries per hour during peak ordering times.”
Anyone in Somerset County within the delivery zone can access this feature. However, drone delivery will only show in the app from 10:30 AM till sunset time, daily.
People can also access real-time GPS tracking and estimated arrival notifications.
Drone crews will be on site, at Wonder, checking all items are “packaged correctly” as well as following food-safety standards.
As with any new technology, Wonder is aware of safety concerns. “When it’s unsafe to fly, it just won’t be available as an option.”
Deliveries will only follow pre-approved flight paths designed to avoid noise disruptions. County officials and first responders who attended a community demo on March 17th witnessed this in action.
Wonder and Grubhub are partnering with drone startup Dexa, which is a Part 135 carrier. This certification means the program will have the same FAA certifications as commercial airliners.
During these 3 months, Wonder will be able to gather data through Grubhub. They are not ruling out expanding this program to other cities.
The food tech company acquired the delivery app back in January 2025.
