A teenager was arrested and charged in the apparent random stabbing of a woman at a Queens bus stop that left the victim hospitalized and terrified to return.
Luis Emmanuel Valencia was walked out of the stationhouse by detectives Thursday afternoon, accused in the seemingly random attack on a 30-year-old woman. According to officials, Valencia turned himself in to police in the morning after being convinced by his father.
The 18-year-old faces attempted murder and assault charges. Attorney information for Valencia was not immediately available.
Video showed the teen stalk and attack the 30-year-old victim at the bus stop on the corner 23rd Avenue and 94th Street in East Elmhurst around 6 a.m. Monday. Police said the victim was repeatedly stabbed in the hand and the back.
A Good Samaritan walking a dog saw the victim struggling and called 911. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where her father said earlier in the week that she was expected to make a full recovery.
“She didn’t see anyone come from behind. It was very fast. He didn’t try to steal anything, nothing,” the victim’s father said in Spanish, adding that his daughter was simply heading to work at the time.
“She doesn’t want to go back there. She is afraid,” he said.
