A cab driver was carjacked at gunpoint in the middle of the night last week in the East Village, the NYPD said.
According to police, on March 23, at around 1:30 a.m. on 2nd Avenue, the 51-year-old driver was approached by a group of four as he was sitting in his vehicle.
The four unknown individuals asked to be driven to a location but the driver denied the request, police said. It was allegedly at this point that one of the individuals in the group showed a firearm, forced the driver out of the car and the group stole it.
The four individuals escaped with the vehicle, which was eventually found later in Newark, New Jersey.
Police are now asking for the public’s help in finding the four individuals described as being male. Three out of the four individuals were last seen wearing black sweatshirts, dark pants and black sneakers. The fourth individual was last seen wearing a light-colored sweatshirt, a black jacket and carrying a bookbag.
Police urge anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
