The second suspect wanted in connection with the deadly shooting of a 7-month-old girl in Brooklyn was taken into custody two states away, police said.
The suspect, identified by police as 18-year-old Matthew Rodriguez, was apprehended Friday by NYPD detectives with the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force. He was taken into custody in Pennsylvania, with charges against him pending, according to police.
The suspect had been on the run since Wednesday afternoon, when Kaori Patterson-Moore was the unintended victim of a shooting near the corner of Moore and Humboldt streets in Williamsburg, officials have said.
Bullets flew when the gunman opened fire on a crowd of people, with strollers and children in the area. The young girl’s parents raced her into a nearby bodega for cover.
When the mother looked inside the stroller, she jumped in agony, her hands flying to her head in shock and disbelief. She saw her child had been shot.
Surveillance video captures the heart-rending moments inside the store.
Two men were seen speeding away on a moped after the shooting, with Rodriguez believed to be the driver. Video appeared to show the man riding in back pull out a gun and fire twice. The moped crashed not far from the scene, and both suspects were thrown from the vehicle.
The suspected shooter fell hard. He was taken into custody and brought to the hospital.
Police on Friday identified him as Amuri Greene, a 21-year-old who faces a slew of charges including three counts of murder, attempted murder, five counts of weapon possession and two counts of assault.
It was unclear when he would be arraigned. Attorney information for Greene was not immediately available.
Little Kaori’s grandmother said Thursday that her family was hurting, but leaning on faith to manage the tragedy.
“She was a loving baby. She was an intelligent baby. She was good,” Oyinkoinyan said of her granddaughter. “No one wants to lose a child, understand? And it’s horrible.”
Anyone with information in connection to the incident is asked to call 1-800-577-TIPS.
