A popular white rice product has been yanked from the shelves of Wegmans and possibly other major national retailers over concerns that the food may be contaminated with “foreign material.”
Two-pound bags of Lundberg Organic Jasmine White Rice are the primary focus of the recall, which began April 4. Wegmans tells USA Today that it didn’t initiate the recall. The brand is also sold at Walmart, Target and Whole Foods, among other national retailers. Apart from Wegmans, none have issued a recall notice.
The items were also sold at Target and Whole Foods, according to reports.
Wegmans told USA Today that it did not initiate the product recall. It referred all questions to the manufacturer, Lundberg Family Farms, which told the paper no illnesses had been reported.
Lundberg Family Farms also said the issue was limited to one production run, and that it had been reported to the feds.
No notice has been listed on the FDA website as of Monday.
Bags affected by the recall contain the universal product code 073416- 040281. It’s a Class II recall, which means affected products may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.
It includes rice bags with best by dates of Feb. 1, 2027, and a lot code of 260201, and a best by date of Feb. 2, 2027, and a lot code of 260202 are affected.
