New England Patriots
Byard and Brown played on the Titans together under then-head coach Mike Vrabel for three seasons.
The potential A.J. Brown trade saga remains unresolved, and the situation could remain fluid until June.
The Patriots have been a rumored trade destination for the Eagles’ wide receiver dating back to last regular season. New England reportedly made an offer for Brown this month, but the Eagles declined it.
Philadelphia is reportedly waiting until June 1 to move Brown, who has recorded five consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and is a three-time Pro Bowler, to save salary cap space. The organization is rumored to be seeking a first-round draft pick and perhaps more in a deal for the standout WR.
The recent Broncos-Dolphins trade that sent WR Jaylen Waddle to Denver saw first-, third-, and fourth-round 2026 NFL Draft picks head back to Miami; that deal should only make the Eagles’ front office double down on their high asking price for Brown.
Amidst the reports and rumors, Brown has continued working out despite a negative report from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio about his knee health.
Not only has he been staying active this offseason, but he’s also been working out with a new Patriots addition: Safety Kevin Byard.
The two players spending time together wasn’t a random meet-up, though – Brown and Byard’s relationship goes way back. The pair were teammates on the Titans under then-head coach Mike Vrabel from 2019-21 before reuniting on the Eagles during Byard’s 2023 stint in Philadelphia.
It’s clear Byard would love to become teammates with Brown for a third time. Aside from working out with him, Byard recently thought Brown was getting dealt to New England during an interview with a NFL insider.
Jordan Schultz received breaking news of the San Francisco 49ers signing free agent WR Christian Kirk mid-conversation. Byard was wishing for a different piece of receiver transaction news.
“I was hoping you was about to say A.J. Brown was getting traded to New England,” Byard said. “That’s what I was hoping for.”
To spark online conversation even further, former Patriots WR Julian Edelman shared a simple yet intriguing post to his personal X account Thursday.
The three-time Super Bowl champion shared a GIF of himself and Brown from a podcast clip that went viral last month. The GIF shows Edelman telling Brown, “We’re all Patriots,” to which Brown winks with a smile on his face.
Edelman added no caption or further context, but the nature of the post was compelling as Brown trade rumors are the talk of the league until the player gets moved.
It could be a few more months until Brown finds a new home, if at all. Until then, it looks like the Patriots could be a legitimate landing spot if they’re willing to pay up.
