Amtrak has announced a limited-release “Trak Suit” retailing for $279, designed in collaboration with the New York School of Design and available to order online through February 2, according to a company press release.
What Is Amtrak’s ‘Trak Suit’
Designed by New York School of Design student Anastasiia Lukinskaia, Amtrak’s Trak Suit has been made and released to celebrate the launch of the NextGen Acela service, which will operate along the Northeast Corridor between Washington, D.C., New York, and Boston, and destinations in between, capturing the new fleet’s “premium comfort, modern design, and elevated experience.”
This trains include amenities like free, high-speed, 5G-enabled Wi-Fi, power outlets and reading lights, plus luxuries like its elevated onboard dining experience, with high-quality, fresh food and drinks which can be purchased via the Cafe Acela.
The outfit features a blue-and-white, two-piece tracksuit that includes a hooded sweatshirt and matching pants with embroidered Amtrak logos, a custom zipper pull, and a detachable sleep mask integrated into the hoodie. The microfiber fleece poly fabric makes the tracksuit “soft and cozy,” and according to Amtrak, the “Trak Suit blends cool vibes with functional comfort.”
The Trak Suit was unveiled during New York’s Fashion Week, and Lukinskaia’s design was picked by Amtrak after it partnered with the New York School of Design and invited seven designers to submit their interpretations of the “iconic and timeless tracksuit.”
Once ordered, it will take around 60 business days to be made. The suit’s availability is limited, with sales running until Monday, February 2, and future availability not guaranteed, according to Amtrak’s product listing page.
What Amtrak Says
In the official press release, Jessica Davidson, Amtrak’s vice president of digital and brand management, said: “When we revealed the Trak Suits collection during Fashion Week in New York, the response from our fans was incredible, and we’re thrilled today to offer the winning look as part of this limited release. The creativity and ingenuity behind the design embody the perfect blend of Amtrak’s heritage and the innovation of today, reflected in the premium, modern style that NextGen Acela represents.”
What the Winning Designer Says
According to reporting from The Times Union, the designer—Lukinskaia—said, “My inspiration came from the Acela train design and the Amtrak team’s goal to attract a new generation through a fashion approach. I noticed the movement in the curves of the train, how they give it a sense of motion, and I wanted to translate that into clothing by combining the curves of the human body with those of the train.”
