A stabbing in Barrio Logan late Friday night left a 28-year-old man dead and his suspected attackers at large, authorities said Saturday.
According to a statement from the San Diego Police Department, officers responded to an alley in the 1600 block of Logan Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. Friday after getting several reports about the stabbing.
“As officers arrived, they observed the victim, described as a 28- year-old male of Somali decent, collapse to the ground. A citizen, the responding officers, and medics all provided medical aid at the scene,” Homicide Lt. Lou Maggi said in a statement. “The man was transported to a local hospital, but unfortunately, he did not survive his injuries.”
The man’s identity was not released until his family can be notified. Detectives were expected to be in the area throughout the day Saturday collecting evidence and canvassing for witnesses.
“Thus far, investigators have determined the victim was surrounded by a group of three Hispanic men, a Hispanic female, and then attacked by some in the group,” Maggi said. “Officers detained a male and a female shortly after the stabbing, but they have since been released as detectives continue their investigation.”
No additional suspect information was released.
Anyone with information about the case was asked to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
