Two skiers collided Sunday on the advanced Polaris Trail, Northstar California Resort said in a statement. One was pronounced dead at the scene by the Northstar Fire Department and the other was taken to Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee for treatment.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event, and the Northstar team extends our deepest condolences to the family, loved ones, and friends of the guests involved,” Tara Schoedinger, general manager of Northstar California Resort, said in the statement.
On Feb. 6, Nicholas Kenworthy, 26, of Los Angeles, was killed while skiing at Northstar.
Ski patrol found the man on the Martis Trail, another advanced run, according to the resort. He was transferred to the Truckee Fire Department and pronounced dead.
Tragedy struck the Lake Tahoe area again Tuesday, when an avalanche smashed into a group of back country skiers in the Sierra Nevada near Truckee. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said six survived and 10 were missing. Search and rescue efforts are underway.
