A bicyclist was killed and a woman critically injured after a driver ran a red light resulting in a crash early Sunday in Chicago Lawn on the South Side.
The crash happened around 1:20 a.m. when the driver of a red SUV ran a red light in the 6300 block of South Kedzie Avenue and struck a bicyclist before colliding with a silver vehicle traveling south, Chicago police said.
The bicyclist, a male whose age wasn’t immediately known, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A 22-year-old woman who was a passenger in the red SUV suffered trauma from the crash and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she was in critical condition, officials said. A 60-year-old woman from the silver vehicle was treated at the scene.
The SUV driver fled the scene on foot before responding officers arrived, police said.
The Major Accidents Investigations Unit was looking into the crash.
