Officers were in the area around Range Rd. after two shot spotter activations occurred around 3 a.m. Friday.
When they arrived in the area, police said they saw a man trying to conceal himself in between a residence and a vehicle in the driveway. According to BPD, the man jumped over a fence and started running with his hands pinned to the front of his waistband.
Multiple units responded while the officer pursued the suspect on foot. Officers said they eventually found the suspect “laying face down” next to a residence on Range Rd.
After they took the suspect into custody, K-9 Cedric and his handler were called to the scene and sniffed out a firearm on the path of the foot chase.
Detectives determined that the gun was a glock 19 with seven rounds in the magazine which is capable of holding eight more.
Police arrested Abrao De Melo Semedo Moreira, 19, of Dorchester, and charged with him carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, trespassing and resisting arrest.
Teens charged in armed robbery of tech store
Two teenagers are facing charges in connection to the armed robbery of a Boston technology store, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Dre’quan Smith, 19, of Dorchester, and D’Jaden Sequiera, 18, of Roxbury, allegedly stole three iPhone from Marte Technology on Geneva Ave. Feb. 10.
The victim told police the teens had asked to see a phone in one of the cases, and when the victim said no, Smith allegedly brandished a gun, threatening to “break” the victim’s face. Then, Sequiera broke into the display case with his foot to take the phones before the pair fled the store, according to a statement from the DA’s office.
Several days prior, on Feb. 4, police responded to a dispute at a market allegedly involving the pair.
Sequeira allegedly approached the victim asking if he was gay, then Smith jumped in and called the victim derogatory names.
“The victim, in self-defense, removed a tire thumper from his pocket,” the DA’s statement said. “Sequeira then lifted his jacket to brandish a firearm in his waistband.”
The teens were arraigned at Dorchester District Court earlier this month and were held without bail. They will be back in front of a judge March 17 for a pre-trial hearing.
“These facts indicate a pattern of disturbing and dangerous behavior from these two young men.” Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said. “Despite not wishing anyone so young to get mired in the judicial system, we do have the primary duty of ensuring public safety, and will handle these matters accordingly.”
