The 2026 WNBA season is right around the corner, and it will look a bit different with two expansion teams set to debut — the Portland Fire and the Toronto Tempo.
On Friday, the league held its expansion draft, allowing teams to protect a limited number of players while leaving the rest of their rosters available to be selected. The Fire held the first pick, while the Tempo will have the No. 6 overall pick in the upcoming WNBA draft later this month.
The Indiana Fever saw two players selected, with the most notable being Chloe Bibby, who provided a major spark for the team last season before suffering a season-ending injury. That same injury setback also impacted franchise star Caitlin Clark, who appeared in limited games during her sophomore campaign.
Clark reacted to Bibby’s selection on social media, commenting on Indiana’s post, “My Aussie for life.”

The other Fever player selected was Kristy Wallace, who will be joining the Toronto Tempo this season.
Clark also reacted to the news, commenting on Instagram, “Kdub [I love you].”
Clark will be entering her third season with the Fever, and with the new seven-year CBA set to take effect, she’s in line for a significant pay raise on her rookie deal. By 2027, she’ll be eligible to sign a max contract — one that could potentially set a new record if she delivers the kind of season many expect.
