Tailgating started in the morning, a pep rally kept fans entertained into the afternoon, and shortly before 5:30 p.m., fireworks celebrated a dramatic two-run homer by first baseman Alec Burleson that catapulted the St. Louis Cardinals to a 9-7 opening day victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Busch Stadium.
