A black cat who’d had enough of his brother’s antics has left the internet in hysterics with his method of enacting revenge, leaving the internet lauding their human-like sibling rivalry.
Cat owner Jayde McDonald is accustomed to seeing her two cats, Jett, 4, and Yeti, 2, antagonizing one another. Indeed, she told Newsweek that they’re “always harassing each other” in some way, and more often than not, Jett is the unanimous winner.
McDonald, 24, of Mississippi, couldn’t resist capturing a hilarious video showing what the duo is like when they’re together. During the clip, Yeti, the white cat, was hidden inside a paper bag, meanwhile Jett, the much larger black cat, sat on top of it and refused to let his younger brother out. Evidently, Jett had enough of Yeti’s shenanigans and wanted some respite.
“Yeti was hiding in the paper bag to jump out and scare Jett,” McDonald said. “He had jumped out at Jett a couple of times before, but Jett had enough and decided to make him stay in the bag. We also think Jett may have been a little jealous that Yeti could fit in the paper bag and he couldn’t—he’s a big guy weighing 20 lbs.”
When McDonald realized what Jett was up to, she tried to intervene and help free Yeti—but Jett wouldn’t budge. Every time his owners managed to move him and open the bag slightly, Jett would simply resume his position and keep Yeti trapped.
“This happened the entire evening while we left the bag on the floor for them to play with. Even without a paper bag, they play the same game with cardboard boxes or anything of the sorts,” McDonald said.
This behavior was by no means surprising, as McDonald told Newsweek that it was “definitely on brand” for the feline brothers. She shared the video on TikTok (@worldjaydecenter) and the clip has delighted the internet, going viral with over 5 million views and more than 1.3 million likes on TikTok at the time of writing.
There’s no guesses who the dominant cat is between the two, as McDonald jokes that his personal motto is “large and in charge.” Despite his prominent physique, Jett is perfectly healthy and fed a good diet.
“Jett is referred to as Lucifer by my family and friends. He’s not very friendly with people (besides his dad and I), but he’s never met another animal he doesn’t love. He likes to play, not cuddle. Yeti is Jett’s opposite; they really are yin and yang. Yeti loves attention and kisses. He is gentle and will run to the door to greet guests,” McDonald said.
Despite his smaller stature, Yeti is far more vocal than Jett. A trait that must come in useful when he’s being trapped by his older sibling and needs rescuing.
The online reaction to the TikTok video has been overwhelmingly fun and supportive. McDonald never imagined it would generate so much attention, but she’s delighted that so many people across the internet can enjoy Jett and Yeti’s antics.
Many people have taken to the comments to laud the felines, leading to more than 3,200 comments on the TikTok video in just a matter of days.
One comment reads: “So we can cross Jet off the list. It was definitely NOT Jet who let the cat out of the bag.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “typical sibling behavior.”
While another person quipped: “I’m not hating to my full potential.”
